Visual Archive // Hair of the Joe // The Audio has Gone.
A handful of photographs from an attempt to bring Hair of the Joe into the world. The audio is gone. The memories remain.
After finishing Hair of the Joe, I decided to see what would happen if I stopped envisioning the show and actually tried to make it.
The answer was: filmmaking is hard.
We shot portions of the pilot at the legendary Peter McManus Cafe in Manhattan with an extraordinarily patient cast who showed up at 4:00am on the coldest day of the year. Most of the production audio was ultimately lost, and the project never moved beyond these early scenes.
These stills are a glimpse of the version of the show that briefly existed outside my head: Joe behind the bar, and a New York that felt just strange enough for werewolves to plausibly be living and yerrrring along with the rest of us.
Special thanks to:
- Peter McManus Cafe for allowing us to take over their beautiful space
- Kenny Dieudonne // Director
- Chris Catalano // Joe
- Jessica Ruffus // Kendra
- Morgane Ben Ami // Olivia
For a weekend, at least, the beast was real.
