Visual Archive // Hair of the Joe // The Audio is Missing.
What survived. A handful of photographs from an attempt to bring Hair of the Joe into the world. The audio is gone. The pilot never happened. The memories remain.
After finishing Hair of the Joe, I decided to see what would happen if I stopped imagining the show and actually tried to make it.
The answer was: filmmaking is hard.
We shot portions of the pilot at the legendary Peter McManus Cafe in Manhattan with an extraordinarily patient cast who showed up at 4:00am on the coldest day of the year. Most of the production audio was ultimately lost, and the project never moved beyond these early scenes.
These stills are a glimpse of the version of the show that briefly existed outside my head: Joe behind the bar, and a New York that felt just strange enough for werewolves to plausibly be living and yerrrring along with the rest of us.
Special thanks to:
- Peter McManus Cafe for allowing us to take over their beautiful space
- Kenny Dieudonne // Director
- Chris Catalano // Joe
- Jessica Ruffus // Kendra
- Morgane Ben Ami // Olivia
For a weekend, at least, the beast was real.
